چکیده
ABSTRACT The 10Mbps Ethernet network has been widely used for interconnecting computers. Recent advances in computing technology have shown that the 10Mbps Ethernet network cannot support network intensive applications. High-speed networking devices are direct solution to the problem but are costly. Using multiple Ethernet networks to interconnect computers can provide performance improvement from a single 10Mbps Ethernet. In using multiple Ethernet networks, an algorithm must be developed to utilize multiple networks effectively.

Probabilistic Model Checking of the CSMA/CD Protocol Using PRISM and APMC
Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) is the protocol for carrier transmission access in Ethernet networks (international standard IEEE 802.3). On Ethernet, any Network Interface Card (NIC) can try to send a packet in a channel at any time. If another NIC tries to send a packet at the same time, a collision is said to occur and the packets are discarded. The CSMA/CD protoc...
متن کاملStability of multiple access communication networks
The problem of stability of different multiple access schemes in computer networks is discussed. The results for the main multiple access schemes -slotted ALOHA, controlled ALOHA, CSMA, CSMA/CD, polling systems and collision resolution algorithms are surveyed. The techniques used for the stability of these systems have been emphasized.

The IEEE 802.3 and 802.11 standards are used to define CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) based on the Ethernet LAN (Local Area Networks) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) protocol, respectively. This report deals with the comparison of IEEE 802.3 and IEEE802.11 MAC protocol in terms of the physical and medium access control (MAC) layer. CSMA/CD Ethernet-based protocol is th...
متن کاملThe Packet Starvation Effect in CSMA/CD LANs and a Solution
In this paper we explore the packet starvation effect (PSE) that occurs in Ethernet controllers due to the unfairness of the CSMA/CD algorithm. The PSE causes some packets to experience latencies up to 100 times the average or to completely starve out due to 16 collisions. The PSE causes some packets to experience high delays at realistic offered loads as low as 40% and causes complete starvati...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of Single and Multi-channel Csma-cd Wireless Networks Using Equilibrium Point Analysis
A fundamental defect of simple CSMA-CD multiple access scheme is that messages meant for different stations can collide in the common channel. In this paper, a multi-channel form of CSMA-CD network, created by CDMA signalling, is analyzed. Its performance is shown to be superior to that of a single channel CSMA-CD network.
